Regional Transportation System |
|
There are currently two transportation modes in the Regency of Tolikara, namely land and air transportation modes. No sea transportation mode is available in the Regency of Tolikara.
1. Land TransportationLand transportation is in fact one of the relatively inexpensive transportation types with bigger transportation capacity. Therefore the Regent Government is at present serious in opening some main roads connecting residential areas and government center and marketing center and the surrounding villages. The road network existing in the Regency of Tolikara is still in the form of soil roads (footpath) and hardened soil roads. This hardened road network allows at present for vehicles of 4 (four) wheels and more than 4 (four) wheels, i.e. hardtop vehicles and trucks and heavy equipment vehicles carrying out physical construction of roads (excavators and bulldozers). Whereas the asphalted road from and to the planning area is available only at the road from the City of Wamena up to Bolkame in the Regency of Jayawijaya.
2. Air TransportationAir transportation in the Regency of Tolikara constitutes the backbone of regional accessibility due to the very steep topography and different fields. People and goods transportation is in general carried out through air transportation with the consequence of the limited number of transportation volumes and expensive costs. These air transportation activities are carried out by airlines belonging to MAF/AMA missionary. The air fields in the Regency of Tolikara are almost available in all districts (except in the District of Woniki), with the status of 2 Pioneering Air Fields located in the District of Karubaga and Bokondini, whereas the remainder have the status of Air Strip.
